Katy Perry's presence on American Idol's judging panel doesn't guarantee consensus.
On Monday (April 17), the competition show's Hawaii audience booed the pop star after she harshly criticized fan-favorite Nutsa Buzaladze.
Buzaladze, known for her high-energy performances, shined during Grace Potter and the Nocturnals' "Paris (Ooh La La)" live. Perry found it excessively sparkly.
“Nutsa, every time you take the stage, it’s like you glitter bomb the stage,” the "Firework" singer told the Top 26 hopeful.
Fans disagreed. Luke Bryan cheered, "Yes!" while the crowd booed. Booed Katy. Booed Katy.”
Perry was unaffected. “OK, first time in six seasons, woo hoo,” she disregarded the jeers. She explained to Buzaladze. I want to flip the script.
Buzaladze admits she needs to tone it down, defending Perry. The "Roar" singer informed the 25-year-old participant that her Las Vegas Idol audition was "turned up too hot."
“My problem is, I feel always that I have a lot of energy,” the prospect said a few weeks before Hollywood Week solos.
